Château Clerc Milon, classified as a 5th Cru in Médoc in 1855, is located in an exceptionally beautiful site neighboring the first growths Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Lafite Rothschild. In 1970, the château was purchased by Baron Philippe de Rothschild at a time when its reputation was at a dramatic low.
Under the baron's supervision, the estate was entirely renovated, and the vineyards partially replanted. Under the guidance and craftsmanship of the new owners, Château Clerc Milon has grown into one of the most sought-after wines from Bordeaux.
The label features an image of two dancing clowns made of mosaic. The original artwork (created by a German goldsmith in the 16th century) can be admired in the Museum of Wine Art at Château Mouton Rothschild. The total vineyard area of Château Clerc Milon covers 75 acres, planted with 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, and 1% Carménère. The vineyards are spread on the hilltops of Milon and Mousset, neighboring the vineyards of the two greatest Médoc crus, Lafite and Mouton.
