This dry white wine originates from Rioja, Spain’s most famous wine region. It is the first wine in the world made from 100% Maturana Blanca, an old native variety mentioned in Spanish wine literature as early as the beginning of the 17th century. The Maturana Blanca grape had fallen into obscurity but has experienced a notable revival in recent years.

Produced by Viña Ijalba, a family winery established in 1991 managing around 90 hectares of vineyards near Logroño. The winery focuses especially on rediscovering native Rioja grape varieties to protect biodiversity, working with the University and Agricultural Research Institute of Rioja.

The grapes are grown under organic farming principles without artificial chemical fertilizers or pesticides. After harvest, the grapes are briefly macerated and pressed. The must ferments with natural yeasts under controlled temperature. The wine then rests for one and a half days to stabilize and matures three months on its own fermentation lees, adding extra aromas and texture.

This elegant aromatic wine is golden yellow with greenish hues. Inviting aromas of roasted peaches and ripe tropical fruit on the nose. The palate is full-flavored and very soft, with an elegant freshness and a formidable finish. It is a wine meant to be enjoyed young but can age a few years in the bottle, enhancing aroma complexity.

Perfect pairings include white meat, al dente vegetables, fresh goat cheese, and fish.
Serve best at 8-10°C.
