This wine is produced only in exceptional vintages and comes from one of the country’s five oldest Cinsault vineyards, planted in 1952. As one of the original grapes of Pinotage, Cinsault is treated with great respect: hand-harvested, naturally fermented, and carefully matured in French oak.
The wine is enticing and refined, with intense aromas of raspberry, strawberry, plum, and pomegranate. On the palate, it is silky, with elegant tannins, perfect balance, and a long, pure finish. A wine of finesse, ideal with rich dishes such as mushroom risotto or a creamy truffle sauce.
The old bush vines yield very low quantities, ensuring exceptional concentration and quality. After a short cold maceration, the wine ferments carefully and matures for 10 months in 300-liter French oak barrels, adding depth and subtlety without losing freshness.

On December 6, 1861, Bellevue was purchased by Dirk Cloete Morkel; the Morkel family owned the estate for 150 years before it passed to the Neethling family.
In 1959, P.K. Morkel entered his Pinotage in the Cape Wine Show, then South Africa’s leading wine competition, and won the coveted General Smuts Trophy, crowning him the new ‘king of wine’ in South Africa.
With approximately 152 hectares of vineyards in various locations, winemaker Wilhelm Kritzinger can select the very best grapes from which he crafts the outstanding wines for which Bellevue Wine Estate is known.
