Lalande-de-Pomerol borders directly to the famous Pomerol region to its north. The family estate Château Vieux Chevrol comprises a vineyard of 20 hectares. It is situated on a raised position on the Néac plateau, where the vines receive optimal sun exposure. The municipality of Néac, together with Lalande de Pomerol, forms the eponymous appellation Lalande-de-Pomerol.
The soil consists of clay, gravel, and iron-rich sandstone locally called crasse de fer. On this grow the grape varieties merlot (80%), cabernet franc (10%), and cabernet sauvignon (10%), from which this wine is made. The grapes are handpicked selectively, and after fermentation, the young wine undergoes maturation in oak barrels.
The result is a full-bodied and elegant wine with beautiful aromas of cedar and forest fruits with a silky finish, where plums and truffles play a starring role.
Château Vieux Chevrol pairs excellently with dishes of red meat. Even a mildly spiced game dish is not out of its way.
We recommend a serving temperature of 16-18°C.
