Galatrona is the flagship wine of Petrolo, located in the hills near Arezzo. The wine originates from the Galatrona-Feriale vineyard, planted in the 1990s on clay and loam-rich soils at about 300 meters altitude. Yields are deliberately low (around 500 grams per vine) to achieve maximum concentration and complexity.
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected. Fermentation takes place in concrete vats with natural yeasts, followed by maceration on the skins for over 20 days. Malolactic fermentation occurs in French oak barriques, approximately one-third new. The wine then ages 18 months in wood, with the first 6 months involving bâtonnage on fine lees.
The 2019 Galatrona presents a deep ruby color. The nose is dominated by aromas of black cherries, blackberries, lavender and violets, complemented by sweet plum, leather, tobacco and spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, with silky yet firm tannins, lively acidity and a long, elegant finish.
